Crimes Without a Mental State - Trending Upwards?

Fellow attorney and blogger Nathaniel Burney has noticed a disturbing trend in criminal law. More and more crimes are being created/committed that do not contain a mental state. In other words, a person may commit the crime and have no knowledge that their act is criminal.
